Style Spotlight: Homeroom Studio – Whispering Dunes

Interior Design: Homeroom Studio

This month we are thrilled to showcase Homeroom Studio’s breathtaking Whispering Dunes project for our next Style Spotlight. Led by the talented team at Homeroom Studio including founder Romy Dankner, this stunning home incorporates our Moss Rug – a finely hand-knotted piece that elevates the space with its luxurious feel and timeless appeal.

We spoke with the team at Homeroom Studio to discover more about Whispering Dunes and their selection process.

What was the initial brief/concept behind Whispering Dunes?

"Respecting the home’s original character whilst seamlessly introducing contemporary charm was paramount for both the client and Homeroom Studio. As busy professionals with young children, the clients required a calming, tranquil sanctuary within the heart of bustling inner Melbourne. The home was reimagined to honour its heritage roots with considered spatial planning and mindful materiality selection, ensuring a highly refined outcome imbued with elegance and authenticity."

How long did the project take to complete from start to finish?

"From project inception through to final completion, the process took nearly 18 months. We proudly reconfigured the entire two storey floor plan to enhance the liveability and increase functional requirements. A natural, earthy palette was curated – anchored by a feature stone with undulating veins, reminiscent of sandy dunes. Through joinery design and detailing, we heightened and enhanced the heritage aspects, leaning into a heritage style shaker detail throughout. Rich, jewel toned furniture and artwork were procured to contrast against the earthy hues in perfect harmony."

FEATURED: Moss Rug

What was the inspiration behind selecting Moss to include in Whispering Dunes?

"The space required a rug that would ground the furniture pieces through both colour and texture. Moss was selected as it complemented the interior design through its warmth and natural authenticity."

How did the colours and textures of our Moss rug influence the other design decisions you made?

"Tribe Home's Moss Rug provided the perfect base for our furniture selection, with a varying muted colour spectrum, it allowed us to pick up different hues from warm beige tones to forest greens."

How did you approach selecting furnishings to ensure they enhance your design scheme rather than overwhelm it?

"The key to furniture, art and object selection for Homeroom Studio, is about finding a balance both in aesthetics and function. The Moss Rug is located in the main living area, which called for a relaxed living style. The texture of the rug met this brief, as the client envisioned many cosy nights by the fire."
